Srinagar, Oct 29 (KNO): The Jammu and Kashmir government said that signboards in Urdu have not been removed from the Civil Secretariat buildings in Jammu and Srinagar, asserting that trilingual nameplates in Urdu, English and Hindi are currently displayed across all official chambers. In a written reply to a question by Sheikh Khursheed Ahmad, the Estates Department, as per the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), said that as per prescribed norms, trilingual signboards displaying names in Urdu, English and Hindi have been installed to ensure representation of all official languages and maintain uniformity. “It is not a fact that signboards in Urdu have been removed from the entrance gates of the chambers in the Civil Secretariat. Trilingual signboards have been installed across all chambers,” the government stated. Responding to another query on whether the government proposes to reinstall Urdu boards to honour the official language of Jammu and Kashmir, the reply reads that there is no need for reinstallation. “Since Urdu continues to be displayed on the existing trilingual signboards along with English and Hindi, the question of reinstallation does not arise,” the department added—(KNO)
